LOW EMISSION STOVES FOR NEPAL PROJECT

SUMMARY:

The common form of home cooking in Nepal is the use of an open fire lit on the floor of the kitchen. Typically, there is very little ventilation or light inside the homes. Smoke inhalation is a major cause of lung disease in Nepal.  Timber for cooking is very scarce.  Most families in rural communities live a subsistence lifestyle and are among the poorest in the world.  Our objective is to introduce to a small isolated rural village, low-emission stoves that are fuel efficient.  We will do this on a not-for-profit basis, with project participants contributing to the cost of purchase and shipping of stoves.  Participants will be paired with families and after trekking to the village, will meet our porters who have carried in the stoves and spend time with the families, helping them to use their new stove.  There is plenty of time in the program to enjoy local culture, explore the Ruby Valley, Kathmandu and surrounds.
