Puffing Billy

puffing billy The original Puffing Billy railway was one of four low-cost narrow gauge lines construdted in Victoria at the beginning of the century to open up remote areas for settlement. The present line between Belgrave and Gembrook is the major part of the the 29km gauge line which operated between Upper Fern Tree Gully and Gembrook from 1900-195. In that year a landslide blocked the track and becasue of sustained operating losses, the line was closed.
